A Suitcase Always Packed
Before Ina's family left Berlin they had tried unsuccessfully to get visas to the United States to join other family members who were already there. According to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, but September of 1938 there were 220,000 Germans on the waiting list of visas to America.
